General Waste Collection Guidelines

  1. Solid Waste must be placed in metal or plastic containers no larger than thirty gallons or in a City approved cart.
    1. All residents will be required to use approved 90-gallon containers.
    2. Please contact Veolia Environmental Services or City Hall for details.
       
  2. Small amounts of construction material from home improvements will be taken with your regular refuse pick up.
    1. Material must be in bundles of no more than four feet in length and no more than 50 pounds in weight.
       
  3. Large amounts of bulk items and building materials will be collected for an additional charge.
     
  4. Refuse must be out before 6:00 AM for collection.
     
  5. Please be sure to secure your refuse to prevent wind blown litter.
     

Solid Waste Collection Guidelines

  1. Building Materials and Excessive Bulk Materials
    1. You must call the Veolia Environmental Services office to schedule a pick up for these items.
    2. Special pick-ups are provided at the resident’s expense.
       
  2. White Goods/Appliancess
    1. White goods such as refrigerators, ranges, water heaters, freezers, humidifiers, air conditioners and other similar appliances must be called into us for pick up.
      1. There is no additional charge.
      2. If you have new appliances delivered, ask the retailer to take the old appliances away
         
  3. Items we cannot collect
    1. Liquid waste, hazardous or special waste, dirt, stone, concrete, or compressed air tanks.

Recycling Collection Guidelines

  1. Recyclable Fiber / Paper Products
    1. Place in paper bag or bundle with string.
    2. Newspapers with all ad inserts, office paper, computer paper, mail, envelopes, magazines, catalogs and phone books
    3. Cardboard, Corrugated Cardboard, Chipboard, Wet Strength Cardboard
      1. Beverage containers and frozen food packaging, juice boxes, paperboard (cereal boxes, snack boxes).
      2. Large cardboard boxes must be flattened, bundled, and broken down into 2’ X 2’ pieces.
        1. Wax-coated material is not accepted.
           
  2. Recyclable Plastic, Cans & Glass (Co-mingled Rigid Products)
    1. All items must be rinsed for recycling.
      1. Food contaminated products will not be accepted.
    2. Glass bottles and jars
      1. Clear, brown and green colors
      2. Lids must be removed
    3. Cans: Tins and bi-metal
      1. No chemical solvents or pesticides
    4. Aluminum
      1. Cans and formed trays (frozen dinners)
    5. Plastic #1 through #7 and beverage rings
      1. Discard the caps.
      2. No bags or uncoded plastics.
         
  3. Make sure your address is on your recycling bin.
     
  4. If you move, leave the recycling bin for the next homeowner.
     
  5. Preparing your recycling bin for collection
    1. Recycling materials should be carefully placed in the 18-gallon bin provided and placed at the curb on the same day as refuse collection.
    2. Please make sure recyclables are clean and empty.
      1. Improperly prepared recyclables and non-recyclable items will not be picked up.
        1. A notice stating why the items were left behind will be provided.
    3. All recyclable materials may be mixed together in the 18-gallon bin.
      1. Mixed paper and newspaper must be placed in a brown bag or bundled with string to prevent them from blowing away.
    4. Veolia ES will separate, process and market the recyclable commodities.
    5. Residents may purchase additional recycling bins at City Hall.
    6. Place your bin out for collection by 6:00 AM on the scheduled date to avoid missed service.
       
  6. Items we cannot collect
    1. Toys, shirt hangers, metal parts, diapers, pizza boxes, plastic bags, Styrofoam light bulbs, window glass, Pyrex, ceramic glass, pots and pans, books, mirrors, tissue, paper towels and plates, pesticide containers, or any containers that contained oil or antifreeze.
Yardwaste Collection Guidelines
  1. Starting in mid March and running through mid December, residents may place yard waste at the curb on their normal pick up day.
     
  2. Twigs and branches must be in bundles not exceeding four (4) feet in length, two (2) feet in diameter, or fifty (50) pounds.
     
  3. Lawn clippings must be placed at the curb in biodegradable paper yard waste bags or in 30-gallon or smaller containers clearly marked yard waste only.
     
  4. Stickers saying "Yard Waste" are available at City hall and Public Works.
     
  5. Christmas trees will be taken for two (2) weeks after Christmas only.

  1. Veolia Environmental Services observes the following holidays.

    2. Memorial Day
    3. Independence Day
    4. Labor Day
    5. Thanksgiving Day
    6. Christmas Day
       
  2. Depending on the holiday, and the day of the week on which it falls, your collection may be delayed one day.
