General Waste Collection Guidelines

  1. Collection Schedule
    1. The city is divided into five sections for collection days:

Solid Waste Collection Guidelines

  1. Each home is provided with one, green, 64-gallon cart for refuse.
    1. Each resident may exchange their 64-gallon refuse cart for either a 35-gallon or 95-gallon refuse cart at an additional cost of $5.00/month billed directly to the resident.
       
  2. All refuse should be placed out for collection by 6:00 a.m. on the designated collection day.
     
  3. A $1.00 pre-paid sticker is required for each bag or 32-gallon container outside the cart.
     
  4. Additional refuse containers may not exceed 32-gallons in size or 50 pounds in weight.
     
  5. One (1) bulk item such as a couch, chair, or mattress will be collected weekly without a pre-paid sticker.
     
  6. Carpeting is considered a bulk item however it must be cut and rolled in 4-foot lengths.
    1. Each roll must be tied and not weigh more than 50 pounds.
    2. Up to 4 rolls will be accepted as one bulk item.
       
  7. There will be two “White Goods Days” in the Spring and Fall of each year which will include collection of white goods and tires (no rims).
    1. The Spring White Goods Days will be the 3rd week of April each year.
    2. The Fall White Goods Days will be the 3rd week of October each year.
       
  8. Pre-paid refuse stickers are sold at the following locations:
    1. Ace Hardware - 9620 Route 34, Yorkville
    2. Jewel - 234 Veterans Parkway, Yorkville
    3. Pride Pantry - 302 Bridge Street, Yorkville
    4. City Hall - 800 Game Farm Road, Yorkville

Recycling Collection Guidelines

  1. Each home is provided with one, navy blue, 65-gallon cart for recycling.
    1. Additional recycling carts are available for rental for $5.00/month by calling Veolia.
       
  2. All recycling should be placed out for collection by 6:00 a.m. on the designated collection day.
     
  3. Recycling includes tin, aluminum, news print, cardboard, glass, and plastics.
  1. Additional recycling may be placed next to the cart in standard 18-gallon recycling bins - there is no charge for extra recycling.

    1. Please do not bag extra recyclables.

Yardwaste Collection Guidelines (April 1 through November 30)
  1. Yard waste must be placed in 33-gallon Kraft paper bags designed for yard waste collection.
    1. These bags may be purchased at local retail stores.
       
  2. All yard waste material should be placed out for collection by 6:00 a.m. on the designated collection day.
     
  3. Brush and/or branches (less than 4 inches in diameter) must be cut Into 4-foot lengths, bundled with string or twine and not exceed 50 pounds.
     
  4. Christmas trees will be collected free of charge during the first two weeks in January.
Items Not Included in the Normal Weekly Collection
  1. Construction/Demolition Materials
     
  2. White Goods - (Call Veolia for pick-up options)
     
  3. Large Automotive Parts
     
  4. Hazardous Wastes (Paints, Oils, Flammables, Hot Ash)
     
  5. Tires
     
  6. Materials from floods, fires, evictions
Hazardous Waste/Medical Products/Latex Paint Cans
  1. Toxic products such as automotive batteries, oil base paints, insecticides, oil, anti-freeze, etc. cannot be collected through your residential pickup.
    1. For tips on where to dispose of these, contact the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency at (217) 782-9285 or the Kendall County Health Department at (630) 553-9100 Ext. 8068.
       
  2. Syringes used for home medical purposes may only be disposed of in, rigid plastic containers.
    1. "Sharps" containers designed for syringe disposal can be obtained through your local pharmacy.
       
  3. Latex paint cans are only accepted if empty or dry.
    1. Kitty litter or oil dry can be used to dry up unused paint.

  1. Veolia Environmental Services observes the following holidays....

    6. Christmas Day
       
  2. Depending on the holiday, and the day of the week on which it falls, your collection may be delayed one day.
