General Waste Collection Guidelines

  1. Streamwood residents are required by Village Ordinance to have weekly waste removal services.
     
  2. Residents will be billed by Veolia Environmental Services in advance for 3 months of service.
  1. As an option to 33 gallon reusable containers or sealed plastic bags (not exceeding 50 pounds in weight), residents may arrange for wheeled cart service by calling Veolia ES at 630-587-8282. Veolia ES is only able to service those carts supplied by Veolia ES.
     
  2. Materials must be placed at the curb no earlier than 5:00PM the day before collection and no later than 7:00AM the day of collection.
    1. Refuse containers must be removed from the curb by 9:00PM the day of collection.
       
  3. Important Note
    1. Side-load vehicles are used for the collection of both solid waste and recycling materials.
    2. Although collected at the same time, there are separate compartments on the trucks and the solid waste and recycling are kept separate from the time of collection until end processing.

  1. Collection may be delayed one day following a holiday. The following holidays affect the collection schedule:
    1. New Years Day

Solid Waste Collection Guidelines

  1. Residential Guidelines
    1. Unlimited number of reusable containers (garbage cans) or sealed plastic bags may be placed at the curb each collection.
      1. Containers and bags cannot exceed 33 gallons and must not exceed 50 pounds in weight; overweight or over capacity containers will not be picked up.
    2. Bundles of debris, such as carpeting, should be no longer than 4 feet in length and not more than 50 pounds in weight.
    3. One large household item, such as furniture, may be disposed of per collection.
    4. Up to 2 cubic yards of remodeling/construction debris may be disposed of per collection. This includes items such as:
      1. Bricks, concrete, dirt, drywall, fencing, garage doors, interior/exterior doors, kitchen cabinets/counters, lumber, paneling, rocks, sinks, sod, swing sets, toilets and vanities.
        1. These materials must be placed in bags or containers not exceeding 50 pounds in weight.
      2. Single items, such as toilets, sinks, vanities, garage doors, swing sets and kitchen cabinets must be disassembled and each portion or item cannot exceed 4 feet in length and 50 pounds in weight.
    5. Large amounts of remodeling/construction debris, in excess of 2 cubic yards, may be collected by a special pick up at an extra cost to the resident.
      1. Please call Veolia ES at (630) 587-8282 to arrange for a special pick up.
    6. Appliances (White Goods)
      1. Appliances (white goods) include, but are not limited to:
        1. Air conditioners, dehumidifiers, dishwashers, freezers, microwave ovens, ovens, refrigerators, stoves, trash compactors, water heaters, water softeners, washing machines and dryers.
      2. There is an additional charge of $25.00 for the collection of appliances (white goods).
        1. Residents must call ONYX at 630-587-8282 to schedule a pick up.
    7. Batteries
      1. Household batteries (single cell, sizes AAA, AA, C, D or 9-volt) may be picked up curbside on the regular collection day by placing batteries in a clear plastic bag and setting them on top of the recyclables.
      2. Automotive batteries may be dropped off in the designated area at the Village’s Public Works facility at 565 S. Bartlett Road.
    8. Household Hazardous Waste
      1. Hazardous waste materials may not be set out for collection at the curb. These materials include but are not limited to:

      • antifreeze
      • automobile or boat batteries
      • cleaning products
      • explosives
      • fire extinguishers
      • gasoline
      • herbicides
      • hobby chemicals
      • insecticides
      • lawn chemicals
      • medical waste
      • mercury fluorescent lamp bulbs
      • motor oil
      • oil based paints
      • paint thinners and varnishes
      • pesticides
      • pool chemicals
      • propane tanks
      • smoke detectors
      • solvents
      • and tires.
Yardwaste Collection Guidelines
  1. The collection of yardwaste is seasonal and is picked up on the regular service days from April 1 until December 15.
    1. Live Christmas trees are picked up curbside during the first three weeks in January.
       
  2. Yardwaste consists of grass clippings, leaves, weeds, shrubbery, brush, small branches and other materials accumulated as a result of the care of your lawn, shrubbery and trees.
    1. These materials cannot be mixed with solid waste.
     
  3. Residents may place yardwaste in 30-gallon biodegradable Kraft paper bags designed for yardwaste.
    1. Bags must not exceed 50 pounds in weight.
    2. Plastic bags are not acceptable.
       
  4. Do not use plastic tape, wire or duct tape to close your yardwaste bags.
     
  5. Residents may also dedicate reusable containers (garbage cans) to yardwaste.
    1. Containers may be no larger than 33 gallons.
    2. They must have a removable cover and a Village of Streamwood “YARDWASTE ONLY" sticker permanently affixed.
      1. Yardwaste identification stickers may be purchased at the Cashier’s counter at Streamwood Village Hall.
        1. Stickers are valid for the entire term of the refuse contract.
           
  6. There is no limit to the number of containers which may be dedicated to yardwaste.
     
  7. Branches which do not fit into bags or containers must be bundled with biodegradable twine
    1. Bundles must not exceed 4 feet in length or 50 pounds in weight.
    2. Branches over 3” in diameter will not be accepted

Recycling Collection Guidelines

  1. It is not necessary to sort recyclable materials; all recyclables may be placed together in the recycling bin.
     
  2. The following items are accepted in the recycling program:

    3. Recyclable Plastics
    PETE:  Peanut butter jars, soft drink bottles
    HDPE:  Milk jugs, laundry detergent jugs
    PVC:  Vegetable oil bottles, window cleaners
    LDPE:  Dry cleaning bags, bread bags, six pack rings
    PP:  Yogurt cups, shampoo bottles, margarine tubs
    Other:  Microwave serving ware
  3. Items We Cannot Recycle:
    1. Containers for motor oil, pesticides or chemicals
    2. Plastic bags
    3. Packing peanuts
    4. Styrofoam or plastic wrap
    5. Polystyrene (code #6) such as egg cartons and meat trays
    6. Computers
