General Waste Collection Guidelines
- All Refuse, Yard Waste, and Recycling must be out by
5:30 A.M. on the day of collection only.
- Senior Citizen Discount
- Senior Citizens may be eligible for a senior citizen
discount for refuse, recycling, and yard waste collection
service.
- To be eligible you must be 65 years old and the
owner of record for the residence.

Solid Waste Collection Guidelines
- Containers
- 96- Gallon Navy Blue Toter
- Alternatively Garbage may be placed in heavy plastic
or metal cans that must be no larger than 33 gallons.
- All garbage must be properly contained.
- In addition, one large bulk item per week, i.e., chair,
sofa, mattress, etc.
- Carpeting in 4' lengths, rolled and tied for pick-up.
- Tires, appliances and white goods will be collected free
of charge.

- Items we cannot collect
- Auto parts, large construction waste, swimming pools,
decks, sheds, chemicals, paints, drums or garbage in
containers other than described above.
- Garbage must be kept separate from yard waste and
recyclables.
Recycling Collection Guidelines
- Container
- 65-Gallon Green Recycling Toter issued by the
Village of Oak Lawn for all recyclable materials
- All recyclables may be mixed together in the toter.
- There is no need to separate recyclables.
- Additional bins may be used if necessary.
- There is no limit to the amount of recyclables that
may be placed out for collection.
- Recyclables must be separate from garbage and yard
waste at the curb.
- Mixed Papers
- Newspapers, cereal and dry food boxes, frozen food
boxes, magazines & catalogues, telephone books, direct mail,
corrugated gift boxes & paper grocery bags should be placed
directly in the toter.
- Metals
- Aluminum, tin or steel cans should be rinsed out with
labels removed and placed directly in the toter.
- Glass
- Clear, amber and green bottles and jars should be rinsed
and placed directly in the toter.
- Plastics
- #’s 1- 6 such as plastic milk and water jugs (HDPE), and
clear and colored pop bottles (PET), should be placed
directly in the toter.
Yardwaste Collection Guidelines
- Yard Waste collection begins on April 1st and continues
to November 30th.
- Yard Waste may be placed in heavy plastic or metal cans
no larger than 33 gallons and not weighing more than 6o lbs.
or reinforced 33-Gallon Kraft paper bags.
- Yard waste containers must be identified with "YARD
WASTE" STICKERS.
- Stickers must be facing the street or alley for pick-up.
- ADDITIONAL YARD WASTE STICKERS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE OAK
LAWN VILLAGE HALL 9446 S. RAYMOND AVE. 708-636-4400.
- Yard Waste will not be accepted in plastic bags.
- Landscape waste includes grass clippings, leaves, garden
waste flowers, twigs, brush and tree limbs less than 4" in
diameter and not longer than 4' in length.
- Brush or branches are to be properly contained, bagged
or bundled and tied, so that one person can safely load it
into the truck.
- All stone and dirt must be removed from shrubs and brush
for composting.

- Depending on the holiday, and the day of the week on which
it falls, your collection may be delayed one day.
