General Waste Collection Guidelines
- Any household garbage not placed in the provided 96-gallon container will not be collected.
- Additional containers may be purchased for $54.50, or rented for $1.30 per month.
- You may place one bulk item per week for curbside collection at no extra charge.
- Items covered are pieces of furniture, fixtures and carpeting.
- Carpet must be rolled and tied in lengths of no more than 4 feet and a diameter of 3 feet.
- All items set at the curb for bulk pick up should be easily lifted by one person – or no more than 75 pounds.
- The collection day for all regular services is Wednesday.
- Refuse must be out before 6:00 AM for collection.
- A Senior Citizen discount is available to residents 65 and older.
- To apply for this discount, you need to fill out a service selection form and provide proof of age.
- Please be sure to secure your refuse to prevent wind
blown litter.
Solid Waste Collection Guidelines
- Building Materials and Excessive Bulk Items
- Household items that are larger than those described above require a special pick up.
- Items included in this category are sofas, home construction project debris, and large amounts of carpet.
- Contact us to arrange for a special collection.
- There is an additional charge and you are billed separately from the regular refuse bill.
- White Goods/Appliances
- White goods such as refrigerators, ranges, water heaters, freezers, humidifiers, air conditioners and other similar appliances must be
called into us for pick up.
- If you have new appliances delivered, ask the retailer to take the old appliances away.
- There is an additional charge of $45 per appliance.
- Items we cannot collect
- Liquid waste, hazardous or special waste, dirt, stone,
concrete, or compressed air tanks.
Recycling Collection Guidelines
- Recyclable Fiber / Paper Products
- Newspapers with all ad inserts, office paper, computer
paper, mail, envelopes, magazines, catalogs, and phone books.
- Cardboard
- Such as corrugated cardboard, chipboard and wet strength cardboard (beverage containers and frozen food packaging) juice boxes, paperboard (cereal boxes, snack boxes).
- Large cardboard boxes must be flattened, bundled, and broken down into 3’ X 3’ pieces.
- Wax-coated material is not accepted.
- Recyclable Plastic, Cans & Glass (Co-mingled Rigid Products)
- All items must be rinsed for recycling.
- Food
contaminated products will not be accepted.
- Glass bottles and jars
- Clear, brown and green colors
- Lids must be removed.
- Cans: Tins and bi-metal
- No chemical solvents or pesticides
- Aluminum
- Cans and formed trays (frozen dinners)
- Plastic #1 through #7 and beverage rings
- No plastic grocery bags or uncoded plastics
- Make sure your address is on your recycling bin.
- If you move, leave the recycling bin for the next homeowner.
- Preparing your recycling bin for collection
- Recycling materials should be carefully placed in the 18-gallon bin provided and placed at the curb on the same day as refuse collection.
- Please make sure recyclables are clean and empty.
- Improperly prepared recyclables and non-recyclable items will not be picked up.
- A notice stating why the items were left behind will be provided.
- All recyclable materials may be mixed together in the 18-gallon
bin.
- Mixed paper and newspaper should be placed in a brown bag or bundled with string to prevent them from blowing away.
- Veolia Environmental Services will separate, process and market the recyclable commodities.
- Residents may purchase additional recycling bins for $7.00.
- Please call us.
- Place your bin out for collection by 6:00 AM on the scheduled date to avoid missed service.
- Items we cannot collect
- Toys, shirt hangers, metal parts, diapers, pizza
boxes, plastic bags, Styrofoam peanuts, light bulbs, plate glass, Pyrex, ceramic
glass, pesticide containers, or any containers that contain oil or antifreeze.
Yardwaste Collection Guidelines
- Starting April 1st and running through November 30th, residents may place yard waste at the curb on their normal pick up day.
- Stickers must be on all yard waste bags, bundles or cans.
- Stickers can be purchased at City Hall or Highwood Hardware.
- No bag or container should weigh more than 50 pounds.
- Plastic bags are prohibited.
- If you use your own container, make sure it has holes in the bottom for drainage.
- Twigs and branches must be bundled with twine.
- Bundles should not be more than four (4) feet in length, three (3) feet in diameter, or fifty (50) pounds in weight.
- Do not use wire or tape on the bundles.
- Lawn clippings must be placed at the curb in biodegradable paper yard waste bags or in plastic 30-gallon or smaller containers clearly marked
"yard waste only".
- Christmas trees will be collected for two (2) weeks after Christmas only.
- Sod, dirt, and tree trunks are not considered yard waste.
